Mining Exhibitions: The Key to Circumventing Sanctions

A member of the Iranian Parliament's Commission on Industries and Mines emphasized the pivotal role of mining exhibitions in bypassing international sanctions.

Mining Exhibitions: The Key to Circumventing Sanctions

Mohammadi stated:  Holding mining exhibitions and showcasing active governmental participation sends a clear signal to foreign investors that the government supports investment in the mining sector.

Challenges in the Mining and Industrial Sectors

The challenges and obstacles faced by Iran's mining and industrial sectors have profound implications for the national economy and sustainable development. Energy shortages and frequent power and gas outages have disrupted industrial production, forcing many industries to shut down or reduce capacity. This has led to a decline in domestic production, increased dependence on imports, and higher production costs, ultimately driving up the prices of goods.

In a conversation with Hassan Ali Mohammadi, the First Secretary of the Parliament’s Commission on Industries and Mines, these critical issues were explored in depth.

Energy Shortages: A Major Barrier for Mining Industries

Regarding the current challenges in the mining and industrial sectors, Mohammadi highlighted energy shortages as a primary concern.

"Frequent power and gas outages have severely disrupted industrial activities, creating a significant barrier to production," he explained.

To address this issue, he suggested that:  “Alternative energy solutions could be explored, allowing industrial complexes to generate their own electricity.” He also added: “Negotiations with the Ministry of Energy are ongoing to permit self-sufficient industries to allocate part of their generated electricity for internal use, with the option to sell surplus energy to the national grid.”

Overcoming Regulatory and Financial Hurdles

Discussing the broader challenges in the mining sector, Mohammadi pointed to the complexities surrounding government royalties on mining operations. This issue affects both large-scale and small-scale mines and necessitates comprehensive review and reform.

"This matter has been incorporated into the national budget proposal, and we are working closely with the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Trade, the Chamber of Commerce, and relevant associations to provide incentives and facilities for mines to continue operations." Mohammadi said.

Additionally, Mohammadi mentioned ongoing sessions within the Committee for the Removal of Production Barriers, aimed at addressing these regulatory challenges.

Mining Exhibitions: A Catalyst for Industry Growth

Mohammadi underlined the strategic importance of hosting international mining exhibitions: "These exhibitions provide a unique opportunity to showcase the country’s mineral potential to foreign investors. However, international sanctions remain a significant barrier to attracting foreign capital."

To overcome these barriers, efforts must focus on:

- Enhancing the attractiveness of the business environment for foreign investors.

- Facilitating direct communication between private sector stakeholders and key government decision-makers during such events.

Government Support and International Collaboration

He emphasized that international exhibitions, combined with active government involvement, play a critical role in strengthening relationships between private sector players and governmental authorities.

"These events offer a platform for economic stakeholders to directly engage with decision-makers, present their challenges, and propose solutions," he said.

Mohammadi concluded by stating that such exhibitions send a strong message of government support for mining investments:

"The government is committed to creating a secure and stable environment for investors. This proactive stance can boost investor confidence, attract foreign capital, and ultimately drive the growth of the mining sector." He said.
